After moving back to Decorah, Rob again found himself teaching science at the Junior High.  Bryan Joseph is presently pursuing a history major at Mankato State University after studying in Japan during the 1993-94 school year. Steven Robert is attending Illinois Wesleyan University with a math and biology major.

In 1980, the family lived near Paisley, Scotland for a year after Rob was accepted for a Fulbright teacher exchange. On 28 Aug 1980, shortly after returning from Scotland, Erin Kathryn was born. She is now a sophomore at the Decorah Community School.

In 1985, the family again returned to the British Isles for another teacher exchange; this time in Chesham, England.

Rob continues to teach at the Decorah Middle School and part-time at Luther College. Nancy teaches first grade at South Winneshiek School, Ossian, IA.

Sharp, Charles and Stella Mary (Headington)

Charles Hutton Sharp was born on 15 Jun 1873 on the family farm homesteaded by his father, William Sharp (1824-1881) and mother, Sarah (Smith) Sharp (1829-1895) in Sections 19 and 20, Canoe Twp, Winneshiek Co, IA.

On 27 Jun 1900, he was united in marriage with Stella Mary Headington (b. 23 Dec 1874), the daughter of George Headington (1853-1944) and Eva Mary (Richardson) Headington (1860-1902).

Charles and Stella were the parents of four children: Myrtle Evelyn (1903-1978), Lloyd Hutton (b. 9 Jan 1907), Marian Sarah (1908-1979), and Kenneth Charles (1914-1981).

Myrtle attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA and taught in country schools before her marriage to Theodore Vine in 1926. They were the parents of seven children: Harlan, Marilyn (Kallevang), Carleton, Alvin, Eldon, Darryl, and Robert.

Lloyd married Hazel Quandahl. They are the parents of LaVonne, Caryl, Merlin, Phyllis, and John.

Marian married Raymond Quandahl (1904-1950) - a brother of Lloyd’s wife, Hazel - in 1926, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Myrtle and Theodore Vine. Marian and Ray were the parents of two sons: Charles Dean “Chuck” (1924-1984) and Harold Raymond “Harry” (1930-1990). Chuck was treasurer for the A.R. Coffeen Construction Company for many years, and was the manager of the Grand Movie Theater. Later, he served as Winneshiek Co. Treasurer. Harry worked for the Trane Company in LaCrosse, Wl. He was later self-employed in business ventures in Sparta, Wl and later worked for the Kwik-Trip Company in LaCrosse. In 1950 he married Shirley Gruel of Decorah. Their children are: Steven Lee of Sparta; Lynn Marie  of LaCrosse; and Jeffrey Scott who lives in Florida.

Ray Quandahl was at one time the proprietor of the Silver Dollar bar and cafe in Decorah, located on the northeast corner of Water and River Streets, just east of the Ness Store. Later he and Marian purchased a Standard Oil Station and Motel in south Decorah on the old Calmar Road. After Ray's death Marian continued to run the Quandahl Motel until the late 1960's, when it was razed to make way for the Highway 9 relocation project.

Kenneth enlisted in the service in 1943 and made a career of the U.S. Air Force, serving in military installations around the world, including Alaska, England, and Texas. About 1950 he married Bertrell “Bert” Mathias of Texas. She passed away in 1966. They had no children. When Kenny retired from the Air Force, he made his home in Texas until his death.

After their marriage in 1900, Charlie and Stella lived on the family farm until about the year 1915 when they purchased another farm on Section 32, Canoe Twp, on what is now called Meadow Lark Road. One reason for buying the second farm was that they wanted to be closer to the town of Decorah. Many of their neighbors in this area were also relatives, and they must have enjoyed this close-knit community. They continued to work both farms for some
